“Helland is yet another accomplished ex-punk who has made the striking transition to atmospheric soundtracks.” Jack Rabid, BigTakeOver Magazine
Armed with his trademark Godin Multiac guitar, Helland has created a musical world of his own combining his love of movie soundtracks, punk rock, thrash metal and Celtic and Gypsy styles into a quirky melodic brew of instrumental acoustic guitar music. “Driving, propulsive and utterly enjoyable to listen to.”
An inveterate touring and recording musician with a background in punk but with the appetites of a would-be musicologist, Helland’s first band, Deep Wound, featured Dinosaur Jr.’s J. Mascis on drums, Sebadoh’s Lou Barlow on guitar, with Helland on bass. Helland still sits in with Dinosaur Jr. on occasion, reviving Deep Wound songs with his legendary band mates. Throughout the ’80s and into the ’90s, Helland also played bass with the Western Massachusetts punk/crossover institution Outpatients, splitting east coast shows with Hüsker Dü, Black Flag, Cro-Mags and many others.
Currently Scott is the guitarist and co-founder of the internationally touring New York based Euro-American Alternative Folk duo, Frenchy and the Punk with singer Samantha Stephenson.
Helland has been writing, recording and performing music since his early teens. He has released over 25 recordings including 8 solo CDs. Helland also released his art book Feast, a collection of more than 50 pen and ink drawings, in 2015. His most recent solo record, ‘Never End the Rocket Century’ was released in 2017.
“Scott Helland is a commanding acoustic guitarist, creating stimulating, passionate instrumentals that may cause little flowers to bloom in your heart” Chronogram Magazine
Aurelio Voltaire is often described as a modern day renaissance man. He is a singer/ performer, creator of comic books, animation and toys.
An internationally touring musician, he is at the forefront of the Gothic, Steampunk and Dark Cabaret genres headlining some of the biggest horror, sci-fi and comic book conventions as well as Gothic and Steampunk festivals for nearly two decades. His music can best be described as a collection of murder ballads, tongue-in-cheek exercises in the macabre, with just enough bawdy songs about Star Trek and Star Wars to keep a convention audience rolling in the aisles. Many know him for his songs “Brains!” and “Land of the Dead” from the Cartoon Network show “The Grim Adventures of Billy And Mandy”.
Voltaire’s live shows, whether solo or with his skeletal orchestra, are full of stories and games. Many describe his shows as sitting around a fire while an old friend regales you with tales, presuming that old friend drinks a liter of rum a night, dates zombie prostitutes and wrestles Krakens.
Voltaire has been recording and touring for over 20 years. He’s released 13 full length CDs.
EGRESS is a tapestry of worldly influences and an alchemy of sounds modern and past, familiar and forgotten.
If Tom Waits and Patti Smith made a musical lovechild it might sound a little like EGRESS. Whether you know them as the “dance band to ring in the end of the world with” or by their “raise your spirit, raise a glass and drop a beat” attitude, they will leave their mark on you. EGRESS is equal parts unruly vaudeville, ebullient world-beat and three ring circus all the while playing an amalgamation of worldly genres catapulting their audience through time and space with unexpected shifts of styles, tempos and time signatures.
There’s nothing more steampunk than the plants that grow through cracks in concrete. Nothing can contain us and none can tame us. We make. We grow. We listen. HUMANWINE’s Mother has new songs for us.
