Misbehavin’ Maidens is an all female nerd-folk comedy band with a focus on bringing pretty harmonies to the dirtiest of songs.
The group currently consists of four members. While all of the ladies come from a “pirate” background, they like to embrace a wide range of subcultures, often singing songs with references to anime, video games, science fiction, and fantasy, in addition to their repertoire of folk tunes and shanties about sex and drinking.
The group performs exclusively for adult audiences, as their main goal is to entertain those who are young at heart, but who have their minds in the gutter.
Why Maidens Misbehave
Well behaved women rarely make history, and The Misbehavin’ Maidens continue that tradition by singing music about sex positivity and women’s rights to change the narrative involving adult folk and folk music. They sing on a variety of topics, with education and feminism being key points; right alongside sex, violence, and Sci-Fi. This panel will be focusing on why they do what they do, and why it’s important for women to get up on stage and sing about orgasms, Dr Who, and murder. This panel will also feature a Q and A. 18+ recommended due to adult topics and language
Drinking: The Cause of and Solution to Con Horror and Humor
Cattle prods, barrel rolls, and too tight spandex. When you’ve been going to conventions as long as the Maidens, there’s bound to be some good stories involved. Grab a drink, and play a drinking game with the Maidens while they talk candidly about some of their best and worst convention experiences, both individually, and as a group. 21+ to drink/play. 18+ recommended to attend due to adult topics and language.

“Helland is yet another accomplished ex-punk who has made the striking transition to atmospheric soundtracks.” Jack Rabid, BigTakeOver Magazine
Armed with his trademark Godin Multiac guitar, Helland has created a musical world of his own combining his love of movie soundtracks, punk rock, thrash metal and Celtic and Gypsy styles into a quirky melodic brew of instrumental acoustic guitar music. “Driving, propulsive and utterly enjoyable to listen to.”
An inveterate touring and recording musician with a background in punk but with the appetites of a would-be musicologist, Helland’s first band, Deep Wound, featured Dinosaur Jr.’s J. Mascis on drums, Sebadoh’s Lou Barlow on guitar, with Helland on bass. Helland still sits in with Dinosaur Jr. on occasion, reviving Deep Wound songs with his legendary band mates. Throughout the ’80s and into the ’90s, Helland also played bass with the Western Massachusetts punk/crossover institution Outpatients, splitting east coast shows with Hüsker Dü, Black Flag, Cro-Mags and many others.
Currently Scott is the guitarist and co-founder of the internationally touring New York based Euro-American Alternative Folk duo, Frenchy and the Punk with singer Samantha Stephenson.
Helland has been writing, recording and performing music since his early teens. He has released over 25 recordings including 8 solo CDs. Helland also released his art book Feast, a collection of more than 50 pen and ink drawings, in 2015. His most recent solo record, ‘Never End the Rocket Century’ was released in 2017.
“Scott Helland is a commanding acoustic guitarist, creating stimulating, passionate instrumentals that may cause little flowers to bloom in your heart” Chronogram Magazine
